Free Fall Fence Clinic 2018

AT OUR FACILITY we have working examples of all styles of electric and woven wire fence to assist you in finding the fencing system perfect for your needs and see firsthand how it withstands the test of weather and time. You are welcome to come for the morning, afternoon, or both sessions on Saturday. Bring your own lunch and remember to dress warmly, the clinic is conducted under open buildings and outdoors, rain or shine.

Discussion topics range from Permanent and Semi-Permanent Electric Fence Systems to Non-Electric Woven Wire and other Physical Barrier Systems. Participants have hands-on opportunities to build fence and try out products, as well as get free advice from our fence experts.

MORNING SESSION

The morning session will concentrate on electric fence systems, both permanent and semi-permanent. Including:

  • Types of electric fence and their options
  • The basic types of low-impedance energizers (110 V, battery and solar) and how they work
  • Proper grounding, training animals to the fence, methods of monitoring voltage, and lightning protection
  • Rope, tape and twine installations and a review of “quick fence” systems
  • Preparing your fence and energizer for winter
  • Gate options and tips about how to mount and electrify them
  • Electric netting systems will be covered in depth and participants will have hands-on lessons on setting up and taking down electric nets
  • Participants will tour the multiple fence systems that are used on Wellscroft Farm, some of which have been in place for over 30 years
 

AFTERNOON SESSION

In the afternoon, the focus will be on non-electric, physical fence systems. Including:

  • Fixed knot woven wire and 2 x 4 fences which will include erecting brace assemblies along with information on hardware and tools for high-tensile fence construction
  • A hands-on lesson for participants to learn how to stretch, crimp, gripple, and tie off woven wire fences
  • Opportunities to learn about other specialty fences of interest by request
  • Fence contractors will be present to help plan your new fencing project

  • 10:45 – 11:00 | Tour and explanation of semi permanent rope, tape and braid systems
  • 11:00 – 11:30 | Tour of netting types including proper set up and take down
  • 11:30 – 12:15 | Tour and explanation of existing high-tensile electric systems and options
  • 12:30 – 1:30 | Lunch or pick up orders for those not staying for the afternoon session. Visit with contractors/dealers
  • 1:30 – 3:00 | Construction of high-tensile smooth and woven wire systems
